The Background
As a small school we do not have the budget to make vast and swift changes to our ICT infrastucture and as such are taking a very considered approach to our aim of implementing mobile ICT options.
In September we bought 2 iPads which were given to myself and the Deputy Head primarily to test, review and fit into our teaching. These have been used to a greater and lesser degree at various times throughout the first 2 terms.
Initial Thoughts
Alongside some excellent opportunities that the iPad has provided, including some great apps and as a research tool, we hit stumbling blocks with both the technology and with the number of devices we have. 1 iPad in a class can only stretch so far and giving pairs of pupils a turn each resulted in very little quality time spent on the device. The best option has been to use both iPads, and class computer(s) to allow group research or to use a certain website. This, when carefully managed has worked well.
When used as a documenting tool the iPad has also been a great addition to class, we have been able to video things and then immediately review them on the IWB, for example the video that we created as part of our lesson on 'exploring an Egyptian Tomb'.
Great Apps
